Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton (born January 7, 1985) is a British Formula One driver for the Mercedes I Amogi Petronas. With seven Formula One World Championship titles, he is recognized as the best driver of his generation and one of the best drivers in sports history. He won his first Formula One championship in 2008 with McLaren. He then joined the Mercedes team and won the Formula One championship in 2014 and 2015 for two consecutive years; He continued these successive championships in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Hamilton is one of the most successful drivers in the history of sports; with seven world titles in Formula One, he is one of the most successful drivers in this race alongside Schumacher. He is also one of the top drivers in history, with 94 victories in the Grand Prix and 163 podiums. Hamilton currently holds the record for most career points (3738), most line-winning wins (97), most Grand Slams in a season (3) and the most points in a season (413) in all of Formula One history. He is known as the best and most honourable driver in history.
A change in the 2014 regulations for the use of turbo-hybrid engines helped start a very successful period for Hamilton, during which he won six world championships. Hamilton won consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015 in fierce competition with team-mate Nico Rosberg to equal his three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna. Following Rosberg’s retirement, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel became Hamilton’s closest rival in two tough championship fights, and Hamilton claimed consecutive titles for the second time in his career in 2017 and 2018. Hamilton won his third and fourth successive titles in 2019 and 2020 to equal Schumacher’s seven championships record.
